Black-eyed Susan

Rudbeckia hirta

This North American wildflower with a dark center a yellow daisy-like petals is sometimes confused with the sunflower. It is shorter, its center is a darker brown and the petals are bright orange-yellow.

“Black-eyed Susan has a history of countering toxins, including snake venom, and it is the perfect symbol for countering a community toxin: injustice,” says Joann Calabrese in Growing Mindful. “Its hardiness and tolerance for different situations resonates with the idea of justice, its energetic correspondence.”
