Sharing The Sustainable Homestead

For the past decade self-taught homesteader Angela Ferraro-Fanning has been studying sustainable farming systems and has now compiled what she has learned, experienced, and implemented on her farm into The Sustainable Homestead.

“The very idea that I can grow food and sustain animals and wildlife in a fashion that actually helps to imp[rove the soil is still fascinating and inspiring,” she says. “Everything we need to successfully grow food and feed ourselves is already provided by the way of sun and rain, soil, microbes and beneficial bacteria, carbon and nitrogen from the atmosphere, and the natural decomposition process that produces nutrient-rich humus.”

In eight chapters, her book covers site selection, building and preserving good soil, growing crops, pasturing animals, composting, orcharding, and the role of a modern-day homesteader.
