How Time Slips

Ever had one of those moments when you stepped out of time and into another dimension? No? Well, it happens more often than you might think, according to author and journalist Von Braschler.

In his book, Time Shifts, Braschler offers anecdotal examples of people who have witnessed things in the past and of shamans, yoga masters, and Samadhi mystics who have used trance-like meditative states to travel outside normal space and time.

Von Braschler examines what these stories have in common in order to understand how these sudden slips in time occur. A heightened state of consciousness appears to be the first prerequisite, tuning out the present with meditation in order to observe with awareness instead of perception. Most time shifts seem to happen when dusk is approaching in late afternoon and most often during late summer or early fall.

Don’t expect to visit the future, however, as time shifts only toward the past, it seems. And don’t plan on conversing with anyone on the other side; no touching or interacting allowed.
