Beginning A Year of Garden-Inspired Living

Linda Vater is an Oklahoma-based, self-taught garden designer and stylist who creates garden content for television, magazines, social media, and her own website and YouTube channel, where she focuses on making everyday life more beautiful and connected through gardening. She previously spent about three decades gardening at a 1935 English Tudor home in Oklahoma City and now continues her work at a new “Cottage on the Hill,” with her gardens frequently featured in national magazines and media.

She is the author of several garden-focused books, including “The Elegant and Edible Garden,” “The Garden Journal,” and “A Year of Garden-Inspired Living: Season by Season.”

Vater’s work blends classic garden structure with cottage-style charm. This book is designed as a collection of short, narrative reflections paired with simple, actionable ideas that help readers weave garden sensibilities into daily life throughout the year, not just while actively gardening.

The book’s purpose is to show how small, seasonal rituals—like sharing soup with a neighbor, creating handmade seed packets, arranging seasonal bouquets, or setting a simple tablescape—can make ordinary days feel more intentional, neighborly, and joyful.

Organizing the content by season allows her to connect the rhythm of the garden with home, community, and personal well-being, encouraging readers to slow down, notice seasonal changes, and restore a sense of balance by aligning daily habits with nature’s cycles.
