Often referred to as a Southern dish with African American origins, it now has nationwide appeal in the USA, featured on many diner and cafe menus.

Established by Metro Diner (a diner chain based in Florida), this food holiday celebrates their signature dish with deals, giveaways, and sometimes a chance to win free meals for a year. This celebration is particularly promoted at Metro Diner locations, but it has gained some nationwide recognition…and the Florida state government has recognized the holiday.

A second Chicken and Waffles Day, this one promoted by Roscoe’s House of Chicken ‘N Waffles in Los Angeles, is observed on October 20.
