If there is no love lost
then they must be at odds.
But how could there be “no love lost”
if there was no love to be lost?
You can only lose something you have.
When there's no love between two people
how could they lose any?
There is no love between them, and none to lose.
Or perhaps there was so much love
that there could be “no love lost.”
