Slow Gardening

Sometimes the best gardening

grows from the bench

where you sit and watch

the hummingbirds feeding

the corn rising

and the pond resting.

Hear the rustle of the breeze

the warble of the quail

and the rumble of far-off thunder.

The roses bloom best

and the tomatoes ripen fastest

and the beans climb highest

when left unattended

yet observed

and appreciated.
