Jelly-Filled Doughnut Day

Observed on June 8 in the USA and Canada, this food holiday celebrates doughnuts with a jelly filling.

The recipe for a deep-fried piece of dough or batter filled with jelly was first documented in a 1532 German cookbook called. Kuchenmeisterei, which translates to “Mastery of the Kitchen.”

This pastry is much like the Polish Pączki, German Berliner, Italian Bombolini, Japanese Anpan or the Sufganiyah in Israel.

Celebrate this food holiday by eating at least one jelly-filled doughnut from a farmers market, local bakery or doughnut shop.
