Garlic Day

April 19 is a day set aside to celebrate the Stinking Rose, better known as garlic. This fragrant and potent root crop with many health benefits has been used to season meals in many cultures for centuries. Native to Asia, garlic is a member of the lily family and cousin to onions, leeks, and shallots.

Celebrate Garlic Day by cooking a Garlic-Centric Meal with dishes like garlic bread, garlic shrimp pasta, roasted garlic chicken, or garlic mashed potatoes.

Or... you might plan to visit a Garlic Festival like the Koonya Garlic Festival in Tasmania in February or the South Florida Garlic Fest.

Another way to celebrate Garlic Day is by trying some different garlic varieties like Softneck and Hardneck Garlics, Thai Garlic, Elephant Garlic, Dunganski, Checnock Red, and Purple Glazer.

You could also plant some garlic at home. It's relatively easy to grow and can be a rewarding experience to harvest your own garlic bulbs.
